Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press had a tidbit this week on former Minnesota quarterback Adam Weber trying to win the backup job for the Broncos:
Adam Weber, the former Gophers record-setting quarterback, on Wednesday begins his second season of training camp with the Denver Broncos. He’ll go into camp competing for the backup job to future hall of famerPeyton Manning. …
Weber will be competing against Caleb Hanie, a former Chicago Bear who was signed as a free agent, and Brock Osweiler, whom the Broncos drafted in the second round in April.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Weber enters camp with a two-year contract.
“There are no guarantees, but it’s a good place to be because it means I’m on the team and I can compete,” he said.
It’s amusing Walters called Weber the “Gophers record-setting quarterback.” It’s not that he isn’t; it’s just that Minnesota quarterbacks have been less than stellar over the years.
How bad? This earlier post noted that Minnesota quarterbacks have had – cumulatively – far and away the worst NFL careers among their Big Ten peers.
