This week, we’re taking a look back at some of the more telling statements from the media and Penn State family over the last decade or so about Joe Paterno, Jerry Sandusky and the Nittany Lion program. Today: LaVar Arrington.
LaVar Arrington threw a bit of a fit this week, accusing the Penn State Board of Trustees of killing Joe Paterno by removing him as head coach.
That makes this 2008 story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about whether Tom Bradley should succeed Paterno all the more interesting:
“It’s no secret, everybody knows that Joe Paterno will not be breathing when someone takes over for him,” Arrington said. “When he is gone, which I hope is a long time from now because he is such a great coach, I think [Tom] is the rightful heir to that throne.
“If he’s not rewarded for his loyalty and dedication, that would be a travesty. I think everyone involved knows that. It’s not a matter of, `Is he qualified? It’s who would be more qualified than him?’ And the answer is no one.”
One, LaVar Arrington interestingly believes Bradley is the best coach in the world. Two, he’s apparently long had thoughts on Paterno’s death.

Wouldn’t it be great if Penn State grads cited their school as Paterno University when introducing themselves as part of the offense or defense at televised NFL games. If NFL players can cite their school as some elementary school, certainly Paterno University would make the cut.
