After several days of teasing die-hard Gopher football fans (yes, all 17 of us) with piecemeal closeups, the program’s official Twitter account (@GoldenGopherFB) revealed the new look helmets in full.
Truth is, I was a bit worried about these helmets going too far ‘a la Maryland’, but these pass all my requirements and then some.
- Retain classic ‘Block M’ – check.
- Trendy matte finish – check.
- Cool black face mask – check.
- Add our classic fight slogan, “SKI-U-MAH” to back of helmet – double check (and my favorite new feature)
I’m pleased with the new look. And they certainly can’t hurt recruiting, as I hear tell the kids these days love the trendy duds. Full uniform to be released to the public sometime after Christmas.
