Bob Baptist of the Columbus Dispatch is reporting that former Ohio State guard Brent Darby died this morning.
Former Ohio State guard Brent Darby died this morning in a Detroit hospital, two of his former teammates confirmed for The Dispatch today. He was 30.
One of the teammates, Neshaun Coleman, said he learned from one of Darby’s former in-laws this morning that Darby had been hospitalized last night with blood clots in his legs, possibly the result of complications from heart surgery he had undergone earlier this year.
Darby, 30, was a 6-1 native of River Rouge, Michigan. He played four seasons for the Buckeyes – averaging 18.3 points and 4.4 assists in the 2002-03 season, including a game-winning shot in traffic against Iowa in the Big Ten tournament:
R.I.P., Brent.
Update: Baptist has some additional information from Darby’s brother here.

Darby and Tom Coverdale used to do battle. Coverdale was a chippy Indiana guy – and it seemed they just hated each other.
